Vote is built to need almost nothing from you. There are no accounts. Your address is never stored. Your picks never leave your device. This page spells out exactly what that means, and the terms for using this site.
Privacy
Your address
To find your ballot, you enter a street address once. It is used for the duration of that single request to look up your voting districts, and no longer: we forward it to public government geocoding services — the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder, the State of California’s district maps, and Los Angeles County and City boundary services — and we never write it to a database or a log. What comes back, and all we keep, is a bundle of district numbers shared by thousands of voters: your ZIP code, county, and district IDs.
The one cookie
That district bundle is saved in a single cookie on your device so your ballot loads on your next visit. It contains district IDs only — never your address. Entering a new address replaces it, and clearing your browser’s cookies removes it.
Your picks stay on your device
The choices you mark, contests you skip, your reading-size preference, content filters, and your self-reported registration status are stored in your browser’s local storage. They are never transmitted to us or anyone else. Clearing your browser’s site data erases them.
Hosting and analytics
The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard web-server information (like IP addresses) to serve pages, under Vercel’s privacy policy (opens in a new tab). We use Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate, anonymized page-view counts — it sets no cookies and does not track you across sites. We run no ads and no third-party trackers.
What we never do
We do not sell or share personal information. We do not build profiles. We cannot see how you plan to vote — that information exists only on your device.
Links to other sites
We link out to official election sites (like sos.ca.gov and lavote.gov). Those sites operate under their own privacy policies.
Terms of use
Not official, not affiliated
Vote is an independent, informational ballot guide. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any government agency. Nothing here is an official ballot, and nothing you do here casts a vote. Official election information comes from the California Secretary of State and your county registrar; if anything on this site conflicts with an official source, the official source is correct.
Nonpartisan, no endorsements
We do not endorse candidates or measures, and nothing on this site is a recommendation for or against anyone or anything on your ballot. The picks you mark are your own private notes, stored only on your device.
Accuracy
Ballot content is built from official records — certified candidate lists, certified results, official voter pamphlets, and public campaign-finance filings — with sources cited on each contest. We work to keep it accurate and current, but the site is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. Errors are possible; verify anything that affects how, where, or whether you vote against the official sources linked throughout.
Intellectual property
The site writes original content, design, and code. Underlying government records remain public records. Third-party names and marks belong to their owners.
Acceptable use
Don’t misrepresent this site as an official government resource, interfere with its operation, or use it to mislead voters.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of this free site. These terms are governed by California law.
Changes and contact
If either of the above changes, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it. Text questions, complaints, and compliments to 858-218-6711.
