San Buenaventura City Council, District 6

This person would represent one of Ventura's seven City Council districts. Members vote on city ordinances, the budget, and land use. Terms are four years. Seats are staggered, so three or four come up every two years. Districts 1, 4, 5, and 6 are up this year. Districts 2, 3, and 7 vote again in 2028. Ventura has no directly elected Mayor. The Council instead picks a member each December to preside for two years.

This is an open seat. Incumbent Jim Duran did not file for reelection. Six candidates are running. It is the most contested Ventura council field this cycle. They are Noe Aguilar Vega, Steven Almcrantz, and Danny Carrillo. The others are Karba Eckley, James Loughrie, and Kevin Daly.

This person would represent one of Ventura's seven City Council districts. They vote on city ordinances, the budget, and land use for this Ventura County city of about 110,763 residents (the county seat). The Council appoints a City Manager -- Bill Ayub, a former Ventura County Sheriff, as of this cycle -- to run day-to-day operations. Terms are four years, staggered so three or four seats are up every two years. Ventura has no separately, directly elected Mayor -- the Council selects one of its own members each December to hold the title for a two-year term and preside over meetings. Dr. Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios (District 4, on this year's ballot for re-election) currently holds it, selected by her colleagues in December 2024, with Doug Halter (District 2) as Deputy Mayor.

District 6 covers Southeastern Ventura. It's one of four districts up this cycle, alongside Districts 1, 4, and 5; Districts 2, 3, and 7 aren't up again until 2028. Ventura moved from at-large council elections to seven single-member districts in 2018, after a threatened California Voting Rights Act challenge. Incumbent Jim Duran did not pull nomination papers to run again; the city's own Elections page confirms his absence triggered a five-day nomination-period extension, to Aug. 12, specifically for this district -- the reason its field is six candidates rather than a typical two or three.

Noe Aguilar Vega

Noe Aguilar Vega is a local business owner. They are 32 and have lived in Ventura all their life. They took over their grandfather's business in 2022.

Steven Almcrantz

Steven Almcrantz is a public works inspector. They have overseen hundreds of public projects. These include streets, sidewalks, parks, and beaches. Their priorities are public safety, infrastructure repair, and transportation.

Danny Carrillo

Danny Carrillo is a Marine Corps veteran and a Ventura College Commissioner. They have served on the city's Measure O oversight committee. They were also a Library Commissioner. Their priorities are public safety, infrastructure, and an open door to constituents.

Karba Eckley

Karba Eckley is an energy policy consultant. They are 36 and run energy programs for public agencies across California. Their priorities are affordability and road maintenance. They also name small-business partnerships.

James Loughrie

James Loughrie is a teacher. They have taught Special Education for 20 years. They name three proposals. One is more spending on road and sidewalk repair. Another is a 650-foot buffer rule between sober-living houses. The third is banning e-bikes from city parks.

Kevin Daly

Kevin Daly is listed on the ballot as a non profit executive. They did not pay to file a candidate statement. So no biography or platform is available for them.
