## On the ballot

- **Mitch Clemmons** — Plumbing Contractor · Republican
- **Linda Sánchez** — Congresswoman/Mom · Democratic

Representative Linda Sánchez led the June 2 primary with 37.5% and Republican Mitch Clemmons took 35.8% — a gap of 1.7 points. Sánchez currently represents District 38; under Prop 50 the lines were redrawn and she is running here in District 41, the seat Ken Calvert is leaving. The district covers part of southeast Los Angeles and northern Orange County.

The winner holds one of 435 seats in the U.S. House for a two-year term. A member introduces bills, sits on committees that shape federal legislation, votes on the federal budget and on war powers, and handles casework between constituents and federal agencies. Seniority travels with a member who changes districts, even though the constituents do not.

This is a close race on unfamiliar ground. A 23-year member of Congress is asking a district she does not currently represent to elect her, and led it by under two points against a challenger with $1,709. Her funding is also the most committee-dependent of any Democrat in the delegation on this ballot. Weigh long federal seniority against both of those facts.

## Linda Sánchez

Linda Sánchez, a labor lawyer from Orange County, has served in Congress since 2003. Before running for office she worked as a compliance officer for an electrical workers' union local and later became executive director of the Orange County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. In the House she became the first Latina to sit on the Ways and Means Committee, and in 2024 the first Latina to serve as ranking member of one of its subcommittees, on trade (lindasanchez.house.gov). She has authored bills on health premiums, caregiver tax relief and retirement savings; her office says a bill she wrote barring insurers from charging women higher premiums was incorporated into the Affordable Care Act in 2010 (lindasanchez.house.gov).

She describes her mission as "kicking ass for the working class" and says she has "never forgotten where she comes from — or who she fights for" (campaign site). In July 2026 she joined dozens of House Democrats in a legal brief opposing giving immigration agents access to IRS taxpayer data, part of her broader pushback against ICE enforcement in her district (lindasanchez.house.gov).

She promises to "lower costs for working families" and to keep fighting what her campaign calls the administration's actions against immigrant communities in her district (campaign site). Her site lists jobs, health care, immigration and public education among her priorities, and she says she wants to make "Southern California a better place to live and work for everyone" (campaign site).

**Strengths:** Twenty-three years of federal seniority, a Ways and Means seat, and a bill of hers that became part of a major federal law.

**Trade-offs:** She is running in a renumbered district she has not previously represented, following redistricting.

**Keep in mind:** Long seniority is real influence, but this is new ground for her here; how much that matters is your call.

## Mitch Clemmons

Mitch Clemmons is the Republican candidate for this seat, listed on the ballot as plumbing Contractor. They have not served in elected office.

No campaign website, interview or news coverage of their reasons for running could be located, and no vote, lawsuit or other public incident is on record.

With no published platform to draw on, their promises cannot be listed here in their own words. That is a gap in what is public, not a comment on their candidacy.

**Strengths:** Clemmons is giving this seat a contested general election rather than an uncontested one.

**Trade-offs:** No record in office and no published platform leave little for a voter to judge beyond party and occupation.

**Keep in mind:** No campaign website or news coverage of their candidacy could be located; that gap is what is public, not a comment on them.
