## On the ballot

- **Jared Huffman** — U.S. Representative · Democratic
- **Robin Littau** — Enterprise Elementary School Board Member · Republican

Representative Jared Huffman took 56.5% of the June 2 vote and Republican Robin Littau took 11.4% to claim the second slot. The district covers the North Coast from Marin to the Oregon border.

The winner holds one of 435 seats in the U.S. House for a two-year term. A member introduces bills, sits on committees that shape federal legislation, votes on the federal budget and on war powers, and handles casework between constituents and federal agencies. Seniority governs committee standing, so a long-serving member carries influence a newcomer cannot.

The incumbent has served since 2013 and has 2 career bills enacted from 28 sponsored this Congress — a ratio that is normal for the House, where most members' work happens through committee and amendments rather than standalone bills. His opponent has reported no funding. The practical question is what this district gets from a safe seat.

## Jared Huffman

Jared Huffman has represented California's North Coast in Congress since 2013. He now serves as Ranking Member, the top Democrat, on the House Natural Resources Committee (official site). He has built his tenure around climate, ocean and public-lands policy. In 2026 he published "No Prophets: The Fight to Save Democracy from Christian Nationalism" (campaign site).

Huffman tells supporters "you can count on me to always fight for our values and priorities, and to get things done" (campaign site). In September 2026, as the Natural Resources Committee's top Democrat, he led House Democrats demanding answers from Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. They wanted him to explain plans to open more than 17,600 acres of federal public land to data-center development. Huffman said the administration is "selling out America's public lands" (official site).

His campaign lists three priorities: economic relief for working families facing rising costs; defending democracy and the rule of law against what he calls ongoing threats; and climate action. He calls this last goal part of building "a movement to safeguard our democracy, our climate, and Northern California's communities" (campaign site).

**Strengths:** More than a decade in Congress, the top Democratic seat on the Natural Resources Committee, and an active, documented record on federal land and climate fights.

**Trade-offs:** A long tenure means a long paper trail to weigh, and a safe seat gives less incentive to moderate for swing voters.

**Keep in mind:** His committee post gives him leverage a freshman would not have, but without a House majority he can demand answers more often than he can force outcomes.

## Robin Littau

Robin Littau has owned Rockin Robin's Cleaning Company in Redding for ten years, and recently took over a local publication, Joyful Living Magazine (campaign site). Littau served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard as a machinery technician, including aboard the cutter Boutwell and at a search-and-rescue station in Bodega Bay (campaign site). They have served on the Enterprise Elementary School District board since 2024, where they received the district's 2025 Mary Beth Weiss Award for civic engagement (campaign site).

Littau says they are running to "protect the American Dream, defend Freedom," and to be "a servant hearted integrious leader who listens and reflects the heart of our community in Washington DC" (campaign site). They argue career politicians cannot represent a community without living its experiences, and say "it's time for change" (campaign site). Beyond their own campaign material, this review found no independent news coverage of their record on the Enterprise Elementary school board.

Littau's platform lists six main promises. They want to cut regulation and hand more control to local government. They back immigration reform and a faster path to citizenship. They want parental rights in schools under a plan they call "My Kid, My Call." They promise support for law enforcement and public safety. They call for a "constitutional defense" of citizen rights, and less regulation for small business (campaign site).

**Strengths:** A current elected school board seat, a decade running a small business, and four years of Coast Guard service in search-and-rescue work.

**Trade-offs:** No record in the Legislature or Congress, and no independent news coverage found of their school board tenure to check against their own account.

**Keep in mind:** What is documented here is mostly their own account of themselves. That is typical for a first-time challenger against a twelve-year incumbent, not a mark against them alone.
