## On the ballot

- **Ameni Alexander** — Nonprofit Organization CFO
- **Ametrius V. Sidney** — Public Safety Executive
- **Dan Evans** — Council Member · Incumbent

A nonpartisan office: candidates do not run as Democrats or Republicans, and no party appears on the ballot.

In District 3, incumbent Dan Evans faces two challengers. Evans was elected in 2022. The challengers are former school board trustee Ameni Alexander and first time candidate Ametrius Sidney. Councilman Mateo Bedolla also lives in this district. He is running for Mayor instead of seeking this seat.

This person would hold one of four district seats on Tracy's City Council, alongside a directly elected, citywide Mayor. They vote on city ordinances, the budget, and land use for this San Joaquin County city of about 93,000 residents per the 2020 Census. City Manager Midori Lichtwardt runs day-to-day operations under Council direction. The term is four years.

The Council adopted its first-ever district map on Jan. 16, 2026, after a public process responding to statewide California Voting Rights Act litigation risk. District 3 covers the middle of Tracy, including the downtown area, extending south to Valpico Road, with Williams Middle School at its western edge. Both Evans and Bedolla live in this district; rather than run against each other, Bedolla is instead a candidate for Mayor this cycle.

## Dan Evans

His filed ballot designation is "Council Member." Evans was elected to Council in 2022 and chairs its Finance Committee. Tracy Press carried his candidacy statement in full. In it he cites funding secured for a new police substation and three new fire stations. He cites his seat on the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority Board. Through that seat, he says, he helped fund a firefighter training facility and the city's first EMS surge ambulance. He cites a dedicated economic development team and strategy he supported. That work is credited with attracting Trader Joe's and Sprouts. He cites his support for a "reasonable" business tax under Measure B, while opposing higher tax proposals. He also cites a city policy recognizing local military enlistees.

**Strengths:** A record as Finance Committee chair, documented by himself. It names business attraction and capital projects such as the substation, fire stations, training facility, and ambulance service.

**Trade-offs:** This account of his record comes from his own campaign statement. No independent reporting was found that judges his Finance Committee tenure.

**Keep in mind:** Evans is the only incumbent on this cycle's ballot defending a seat he was elected to. Mayoral candidate Bedolla, by contrast, holds his current seat by appointment. So Evans runs the most straightforward incumbent's case of the three council candidates.

## Ameni Alexander

His filed ballot designation is "Nonprofit Organization CFO." Alexander served on the Tracy Unified School District Board of Education from 2018 to 2022, including a term as board president for 2021-2022 (elected to that role unanimously, per Tracy Press). He ran unsuccessfully for Tracy City Council in 2020 and 2022, per Tracy Press's own election roundup.

**Strengths:** Four years of elected school board experience, including a year presiding as board president. He also states a CFO role in nonprofit finance. That is relevant to city budgeting.

**Trade-offs:** He made two prior Council bids, in 2020 and 2022, and lost both. That suggests a district electorate that has not yet chosen him for this office.

**Keep in mind:** His school board tenure ended in 2022. No more recent independent reporting was found on his activities between 2022 and this campaign.

## Ametrius V. Sidney

Her filed ballot designation is "Public Safety Executive." Sidney is a 24 year Tracy resident. She is Deputy Director at the County of San Mateo's Public Safety Communications department. This is her first campaign for elected office. Tracy Press's own reporting independently confirms her local civic engagement. In March 2025 the City Council picked her as one of three candidates appointed as an alternate to the city's Measure V Residents' Oversight Committee.

**Strengths:** A public safety management career in San Mateo County, directly relevant to a Council role. She also has a prior city committee appointment. That shows civic engagement before running.

**Trade-offs:** She holds no prior elected office and has run for none before. So there is no electoral track record to weigh.

**Keep in mind:** Her professional public safety background is out of county, in San Mateo rather than San Joaquin. It is worth asking how that translates to Tracy priorities.
