State Senator, District 32

Kelly Seyarto is the Republican state senator for this district. He spent 35 years as a firefighter. He retired as a battalion chief for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. He served on the Murrieta City Council and was mayor four times. He then moved up to the Assembly and the Senate. In Sacramento he has authored bills on wildfire policy, including a plan to let evacuation routes in fire hazard zones use state climate funding. He ties that work to his years fighting fires.

He says he is running because California has changed for the worse. He says families are leaving to find better opportunities elsewhere. He wants to help make it, in his words, the Golden State again. After the January 2025 wildfires, he said Senate Democrats should stop holding closed planning meetings. He said those meetings left Republicans out of wildfire bills.

He promises to keep fighting crime. He promises to cut taxes and red tape for small businesses. He promises to put roads and water storage ahead of the bullet train. He also promises local, practical fixes for homelessness instead of one size fits all rules from Sacramento. He promises more funding for fire prevention.

Tiffanie Tate is a doctor, educator and author running as a Democrat. She worked as an OB-GYN for more than 20 years in Tennessee and California. She also served as a Navy medical officer during medical school. An injury that required six surgeries ended her medical practice. Since then she has written four books and she co-hosts an NBC radio show on health. She has not held state legislative office.

She says she is running because she believes government should work for everyone. She says that means not just the well-connected or the powerful. Before this race she ran for a seat in Congress. She has no record in the California Legislature for voters to judge.

She promises to lower costs for families, including health care and groceries. She promises to expand access to health care, including reproductive and women's services. She also promises stronger support for public schools and more help for people who are homeless, including housing, mental health care and job training.
