Incumbent Kristi Becker is running unopposed for Solana Beach City Council, District 2. No other candidate filed by the deadline, so she's re-elected outright once the ballot is certified.

This person holds District 2's seat on Solana Beach's 5-member City Council, alongside the citywide-elected Mayor: city ordinances, the budget, and land use, with day-to-day operations run by an appointed city manager. A 4-year term.

Solana Beach moved from an all at-large council with a rotating mayor to today's system -- a directly elected, citywide Mayor plus four district councilmembers -- in the city's first district elections on November 3, 2020. Becker holds one of those four district seats. This is the more clear-cut of the city's two races this cycle: an incumbent seeking another term with no challenger in the field.

The incumbent. The Coast News reports she was first elected to the council in 2018 and is seeking a third term; the city's own records show her current term dated from December 2022, consistent with a 2018 first win and a 2022 re-election under the district system. In her own filed Biographical Form, Becker lists 15 years as a Solana Beach resident and 37 years in San Diego County, a BA in Law & Society from UC Santa Barbara, and a law degree from UC Davis. Her own filed candidate statement describes her occupation as "City Councilmember / Retired Lawyer," citing prior work as a trial lawyer at a large regional law firm and in the San Diego County Counsel's Office. She frames her central issue as resisting new state (Sacramento) zoning and density mandates that she argues would permanently alter the character of Solana Beach's neighborhoods and business districts, and says she supports "practical, thoughtful solutions for affordable housing" while opposing "luxury 8-story apartment projects" that block views, lack parking, or overwhelm infrastructure. She points to a first-term record that includes stopping a proposal to realign train tracks through the city, replenishing sand and adding a new playground, shower, and access ramp at Fletcher Cove Beach, replacing the tot lot at La Colonia Park, and securing funding for walking-path and bike-lane improvements on Lomas Santa Fe east of the freeway.
