## On the ballot

- **Keokia Childress**
- **William Perez**
- **Yolanda Davidson**
- **Leonard Redway**

A nonpartisan office: candidates do not run as Democrats or Republicans, and no party appears on the ballot.

District 1 is an open seat: incumbent Gloria D. Gray did not file for re-election and is running for mayor instead. Four candidates — Keokia Childress, Leonard Redway, Yolanda Davidson and William Perez — qualified for the November 3 ballot.

The winner serves a four-year term on Inglewood's four-member City Council. They vote on city ordinances, the municipal budget, and land-use decisions for District 1.

With no incumbent, each candidate is running on their own record rather than defending or attacking a sitting councilmember's term. The clearest split is experience: sustained city-commission and small-business service on one side, two candidates with a thinner public record on the other.

## Keokia Childress

She has lived in Inglewood more than 40 years, has run the small business Spa 313 Salon for 22 years, and co-founded the Taste of Inglewood festival. She has served eight years as an Inglewood Housing Commissioner and is running on public safety, housing affordability, and support for small businesses. The one thing to know: she is the only District 1 candidate with sustained service on an Inglewood city commission.

**Strengths:** Eight years as a Housing Commissioner and 22 years running a local business give her the field's clearest record of sustained civic and economic involvement in the district.

**Trade-offs:** No service on the City Council itself, so her commission experience is advisory rather than the legislative work the seat requires.

**Keep in mind:** Her platform names public safety, housing affordability and small-business support — priorities shared by most of the field — so her commission record is the sharper differentiator to weigh.

## Leonard Redway

Redway is a longtime Inglewood resident, the founder of LRS Plumbing, and currently serves as an Inglewood commissioner and a delegate to the state Assembly's 61st district committee. They previously ran for this same District 1 seat in 2022. No specific 2026 platform could be confirmed beyond their candidacy and these civic roles.

**Strengths:** An Inglewood commissioner and Assembly delegate with a small business of their own, running for this same seat for a second time.

**Trade-offs:** Ran for this seat in 2022 without winning, and no 2026 platform specifics could be confirmed beyond their candidacy and civic roles.

**Keep in mind:** The thinness of their 2026 platform reflects a reporting gap more than an absence of activity: local coverage of this cycle has focused more on the mayor's race than this council seat.

## Yolanda Davidson

A lifelong Inglewood resident and graduate of the city's public schools, they have completed political training through the LA African-American Women's Public Policy Institute and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute. They are running on returning the Parking and Traffic Division to city control, renegotiating the FAA noise-abatement agreement, and moving council meetings to evenings. This is their second run for this seat; they also ran in 2022.

**Strengths:** A specific, multi-issue platform — parking enforcement, FAA noise-abatement renegotiation, evening council meetings — plus a second run for this same seat, after 2022.

**Trade-offs:** Did not win their 2022 run for this seat, and has no service in elected office to weigh against that record.

**Keep in mind:** Their push to move meetings to evenings and open them to more public input echoes Gray's own platform for mayor — a sign of where District 1 frustration currently runs, regardless of who wins either race.

## William Perez

Perez qualified as a District 1 candidate on August 3, 2026, confirmed by the city clerk on August 10. No campaign platform, endorsements or public background could be found beyond that filing. The one thing to know: this is a genuinely thin record, worth checking again closer to Election Day.

**Strengths:** Qualified for the ballot with the city clerk, meeting the same filing requirements as every other candidate in this race.

**Trade-offs:** No campaign platform, endorsements, or public record could be found beyond their qualified filing — the least documented candidate in this race.

**Keep in mind:** The absence is sourced, not assumed: the city's own filing log and every outlet covering this race name them only as a qualified filer. If a campaign surfaces, the weekly refresh will catch it.
