This person is one of five supervisors governing El Dorado County: the budget, county health and social services, and unincorporated-area land use. A 4-year term.

El Dorado County has an open race for its 4th District seat on the Board of Supervisors: Ted Gaines, the sitting Republican member of the state Board of Equalization, faces Gina Posey, a retired technology executive and two-term member of the county's own Civil Grand Jury. Neither candidate is the sitting supervisor -- incumbent Lori Parlin is not seeking another term.

The winner serves a 4-year term as one of five supervisors governing El Dorado County: setting the county budget, overseeing county health and social services, and making land-use decisions for unincorporated areas of the county.

Gaines has spent more than two decades in elected office -- six years on the Placer County Board of Supervisors (2000-2006), five years in the state Assembly (2006-2011), eight years in the state Senate (2011-2019), and, since 2019, a seat on the California State Board of Equalization -- and has owned an insurance business in Roseville for more than 30 years, per Wikipedia and his own campaign site. Posey has never held elected office; her public record includes two terms (2021-2023) on El Dorado County's own Civil Grand Jury and more than 40 years in corporate business and technology roles, including at Hewlett-Packard and Oracle, per her own campaign site.

Ted Gaines

Ted Gaines is the sitting Republican member of the California State Board of Equalization for its 1st district. Before that, he served six years on the Placer County Board of Supervisors, five years in the California State Assembly's 4th district, and eight years in the State Senate's 1st district (winning a January 2011 special election). He has owned and operated Gaines Insurance in Roseville for more than 30 years; his campaign site says his daughter now runs the business day to day.

Strengths

Decades of elected experience -- county supervisor, state Assembly, state Senate, statewide office -- plus a 30-year business record and "A" grades from Howard Jarvis Taxpayers, per his site.

Trade-offs

Leaving an active statewide office for a county seat, with no independent reporting on his record -- only his campaign's account. Drew 0.7% as a 2021 recall replacement candidate, per Wikipedia.

His campaign site's policy detail is limited to three general priorities -- taxes, regulation, jobs -- plus a stated commitment to rural character; no independent news coverage of this specific county race was found this pass.

Gina Posey

Gina Posey has spent more than 40 years in business and technology leadership, including roles at Hewlett-Packard and Oracle, after earning a Computer Science degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an MBA from Santa Clara University. She has lived in District 4 -- Rescue and Shingle Springs -- for more than 20 years, served two terms (2021-2023) on El Dorado County's Civil Grand Jury, and founded the Sierrama Firewise Community wildfire-risk-reduction group in 2022, per her own campaign site.

Strengths

Direct county-government experience via two Civil Grand Jury terms -- her site says it helped withhold "over $3M in disputed taxes" -- plus a corporate career and a wildfire nonprofit she founded.

Trade-offs
