Coronado City Council
This person holds one of two at-large seats up this cycle. The seats are on Coronado's City Council. The council has five members. A directly elected mayor also serves on the council. They vote on city laws, the budget, and land use. An appointed city manager runs day-to-day operations. The term is four years.
Four candidates are running for two at large seats on the Coronado City Council. Incumbent Kelly Purvis, appointed January 2025, faces challengers Andrew Gade, Ricky Hoyt and Rebecca King. Voters may choose up to two candidates, with no primary or runoff.
Winners join Coronado's directly-elected mayor and two other council members as five votes on city ordinances, the budget, and land use, with day-to-day operations run by an appointed city manager rather than any single elected official. Terms run four years, from December 2026 to December 2030.
One of the two seats on this ballot is the one Purvis was appointed to in January 2025, filling the vacancy left when John Duncan was elected mayor -- her appointed term was always going to run only through this election. The other is a full four-year-term seat whose sitting incumbent chose not to run: the city's own election-info page notes that an eligible incumbent didn't file by the regular Aug. 7 deadline, which under state law triggered a five-day filing extension that brought the rest of this field in.
