On the ballot

Belmont's City Council has four district seats plus the separately elected, citywide Mayor. Each councilmember represents one of the city's four geographic districts and serves a 4-year term; only two of the four districts are up this cycle.

Councilmember Gina Latimerlo is running for reelection unopposed in District 1; she was the only candidate who qualified by the filing deadline.

Belmont's City Council has four district seats, each elected only by the voters of that district, plus the separately elected, citywide Mayor. Councilmembers serve staggered 4-year terms; only Districts 1 and 3 are up this cycle, alongside the Mayor's seat -- Districts 2 (Cathy Jordan) and 4 (Tom McCune) are not on this ballot.

The county's own certified candidate roster and independent San Mateo Daily Journal reporting (Aug. 11, 2026) both confirm no one else filed to challenge Latimerlo this cycle.

Gina Latimerlo

The incumbent, first elected to represent District 1 in 2022 (seated 2023) and seeking a second term; she also served as the council's Vice Mayor in 2024 and previously as a Planning Commissioner (2021-2022). A Belmont resident and small-business owner for roughly 25 years, she has run the Latimerlo Studio, a voice-training business, since 1998, and was previously president of her Homeview neighborhood association for a decade. Her stated priorities include managing growth and development in District 1 -- which she describes as the center of the city's commercial and residential core -- expanding civic-leadership pipelines for underrepresented residents, improving two-way communication between residents and city government, protecting Belmont's open space, and continuing infrastructure repairs to roads, sewers, and storm drains. She also serves as Board Chair of Commute.org and Vice Chair of the San Mateo County Community Action Agency Board.
