This person would hold one of four district seats on Antioch's City Council (four district members plus a separately, directly elected Mayor): city ordinances, the budget, and land use in this Contra Costa County city of about 115,000, under a council-manager government with an appointed City Manager. A 4-year term. Antioch's four council seats elect on a staggered schedule -- Districts 1 and 4 are up this cycle; Districts 2 and 3, and the separately elected Mayor, are not.

Four candidates are running: incumbent Monica Wilson, seeking a fifth term, against three challengers -- Sandra White, Andrew Becker, and Metty Mathews Alappat.

This person would hold one of four district seats on Antioch's City Council (four district members plus a separately, directly elected Mayor): city ordinances, the budget, and land use in this Contra Costa County city of about 115,000, under a council-manager government with an appointed City Manager. A 4-year term. Antioch switched from at-large to district elections in 2020 after a threatened voting-rights lawsuit; Districts 1 and 4 are up this cycle, Districts 2 and 3 are not.

Whichever candidate gets the most votes in this four-way field wins outright -- there is no runoff, so a win doesn't require a majority.

Monica Wilson

The incumbent, first elected in 2012 and seeking a fifth term; she is Antioch's first African American woman ever elected to the City Council. Her 2026 campaign slogan is "Proven Experience. Trusted Leadership," built around strengthening neighborhoods, supporting families, and economic stability, framed as "collaborative leadership, transparent decision-making, and practical solutions."

Strengths

14 years on the Council already, more than any other sitting member, plus a historic first as the city's first Black woman on the body.

A human-resources executive, currently Vice President of Human Resources for the Center for Social Dynamics, a multi-state autism-services organization; she holds a B.A. in Psychology from CSU East Bay and a Master's in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. She previously chaired Antioch's Police Crime Prevention Commission, serves as president of the Antioch Rotary Club and as a Standby City Council Member for Mayor Ron Bernal, and has volunteered on the Antioch Unified School District Advisory Board and a county Community Corrections Partnership advisory board. This is her third run against Wilson, after 2020 and 2022. Her 2026 platform emphasizes economic development, full police staffing, expanded youth programs, and fiscal discipline ("We cannot spend more than we bring in").

Strengths

A long record of local civic appointments (Police Crime Prevention Commission chair, mayoral standby councilmember, school district and county advisory boards), plus a detailed policy platform.

A first-time candidate. The only description this dataset located anywhere is the Antioch Herald's own: "a local homeless advocate and regular public speaker at council meetings." A real, multi-method search -- the Herald's own site search and a second results page, Ballotpedia, and general web search -- found no campaign website, no further biographical detail, and no independent profile of him.

Strengths

Metty Mathews Alappat

A first-time candidate who goes by "Matty." She spent 15 years in the software industry, most recently as a Senior Technical Account Manager for Amazon Web Services through July 2025, and holds a Master's Degree in History (2002) and a B.A. in History, Economics and Political Science from the University of Kerala, India. She moved to Antioch from Hayward four years ago to find affordable housing with yard space for her dog, and is currently between jobs. Her 2026 campaign slogan is "A Safer, Cleaner Antioch -- For All of Us," emphasizing police resourcing, infrastructure and downtown revitalization, carefully planned housing and homelessness policy, and local job growth.

Strengths

A specific, detailed campaign platform and a lengthy private-sector technical career, though neither has been tested by prior public office.

Trade-offs
